Vintage meisen silk kimono patched bags

Finally, I have listed some of my bags on Etsy that I made for the last couple of weeks.
I love mixing patterns and matching colours. Meisen kimono fabrics are great for that.
I will post more items soon.

Kawai kanjiro's house (Kawai kanjiro kinen kan)

Here is one of my favourite spot in Kyoto: Kawai kanjiro kinen kan.
He is known as a potter and a sculptor  as well as a key figure of mingei (Japanese folk art) movement.

The house he used to live is now museum, where you can enjoy his distinctive art works, the colloction of furniture and the unique yet fascinating interior decor.

Charity event finished successfully

The charity event for Japan tsunami and earthquake finished successfully.
I was moved by the excellent performance by kids, adult choir, momo san and other musicians.
Thank you very much for everyone who came to the event.

I didn't have a chance to take photo of my stall but it was like the last photo, which was the display I tried out  at home. On the event, I was able to sell more than I expected. It has been difficult to sell on-line, so it was quite good. I can buy more new materials!

I enjoyed meeting other craft artists and stall holders. I will introduce about them later in my blog.

For the last one week, I was making, making, making lots of items towards the charity event at Wynum Hall, Brisbane this Sunday.

This is one of the bag I am going to sell at the market.
Striking pattern, colour and dynamic motif but somehow really sweet.

New listings: Silk kimono necklaces in crown setting

Here are the silk kimono necklaces I have just listed on my Etsy site.
All the kimono fabric covered bottons are in crown settings. Some with chrysanthemum filigree (large or small), and others with twisted circles.

These are beautiful and elegant necklaces yet understated, so it should be ideal for someone loves Japanese motifs but don't want to be too showy.

Gion festival in Kyoto

It's already in July.
Kyoto is in a festive mood for the whole month during which Gion matsuri is held.
These are the images from couple of years ago.
It's not an energetic festival compared to others, but this festival is huge in scale and full of history (more than 1000 years old!).

My first market at Suitcase rummage

I completely forgot to take photos of my market stall which I had last Sunday, so these are the photos of buttons I bought from another market holder.

Aren't they all cute? I am so looking forward to make jewellery with these buttons.

Anyway, Suitcase Rummage is different from conventional markets, and it is more like a flea market.
You can sell either handmade or second hand items, and probably 2/3 stalls sell second hand items.

I shared a stall with my friend this time.
It was a good experience to see what sort of items customers were interested in.
Hopefully I can have a stall next month, too.

We love Japan charity event

I am going to have a craft stall at a charity event at Wynum Hall, Brisbane on July 24th.
There will be a concert, kids yoga, in addition to craft stalls.
Ticket sales ($10 per ticket) are all donated to Bikki Children's fund.

Please click here for the details.

A hidden cafe in Uji, Kyoto "ezeko"

My sister's family lives in Uji, Kyoto.
Uji is famous for green tea and it is becoming a popular tourist spots for who want to try green tea flavour desert.

The most famous desert cafe is "Nakamura Tokichi" but this cafe is not famous one. It is situated almost in front of my sister's apartment.

The cafe is renovated machiya and every single thing in the cafe is tasteful and arty. You don't see any mass produced products there.

Nice collection of books to read, small gallery space, healthy lunch menu, good coffe and delicious desert.
The desert in the photo is matcha dorayaki. Yummy!

I will go back there when I visit my sister's family in Kyoto.
